Shantaben Yadav

Submergence Village Pipri, Madhya Pradesh.

Shantaben Yadav is one of the important woman leaders at the forefront of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA).

Shantaben was one among the seven who undertook an indefinite fast in early 1990 at the historic Ferkuva struggle, also called The Long March against the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP). One of the very articulate women and farmer leaders of NBA, Shantaben in her three hour long interview explains why the people in the Narmada valley oppose large dams on the river Narmada, the socio-economic profile of the region in the submergence zone of the SSP, the struggle they are waging, women’s roles in the struggle and the challenges before the people to be affected by the dam. Here is just a short clip from her otherwise detailed interview where she explains why the SSP is being opposed by the people living on the banks of the mighty Narmada.
