Shantaben Yadav was an important woman leader who was always in the forefront of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA).

Shantaben, an articulate woman and farmer leader of the NBA, was one among the seven people who undertook an indefinite fast in early 1990 during the historic Ferkuva struggle, also called The Long March against the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP). In her three-hour long interview,  Shantaben explains why the people in the Narmada valley oppose large dams on the Narmada, describes the socio-economic profile of the submergence zone of the SSP, details the struggle they are waging, brings out the role that women have played in the struggle and points out the challenges faced by the people who are about to be affected by the dam. In the short clip from her longer interview below, she explains why the people living on the banks of the mighty Narmada are opposing the SSP.
